STEM Ignited is led by a team of South African educators, technologists, and social entrepreneurs who share one conviction: that where you grow up should not determine whether you get to pursue a career in STEM.
Together, our founders bring expertise across digital communications, business strategy, technology systems, and community development. Furthermore, each leader brings lived experience of the South African education landscape — which means our programmes are designed from the inside out, not imposed from above.
We operate as a lean, high-impact team. Instead of building a large bureaucratic structure, we focus our resources directly on programme delivery, partnerships, and learner access. As a result, every rand of funding goes further.
Our directors are actively involved in every programme — from planning STEM Space Career Immersion Days with SANSA, to designing entrepreneurship incubation frameworks, to building the digital infrastructure that runs our operations.
By 2033, STEM Ignited aims to develop 1 million STEM professionals and entrepreneurs from underserved South African communities. That goal requires not just great programmes — it requires great people. Consequently, we are intentional about who leads this organisation and how.
We are also committed to gender equity at every level. Our leadership team reflects the diversity we want to see in South Africa’s STEM workforce — and that commitment extends to every cohort we run, where we target a minimum of 50% female participation.
